In doing some research about forming a non-profit organization, I stumbled across this book, "Nonprofit Board Answer Book," which was incredibly helpful. Published by the National Center for Nonprofit Boards, it is very pragmatic and understandable to a layperson. The book is structured around a series of well-organized questions. The authors, Andringa and Engstrom, succinctly respond to the questions, giving enough detail to give readers a satisfactory understanding of the issue without delving into ridiculously technical aspects.
I would recommend this book to anyone thinking about starting a nonprofit... especially if you are facing the daunting task of recruiting a board of directors and are unsure as to their roles and responsibilities. Similarly, this book would be an excellent resource for those folks who have been asked to serve on a board and want to help the nonprofit succeed.
4 out of 5 stars.
